Kep Chuktema Becomes the Chairman of the 4th Expert Committee of the National Assembly

PHNOM PENH: The National Assembly has elected the former Governor of Phnom Penh, Kep Chuktema, as the new Chairman of the National Assembly’s Commission on Interior, National Defense and Civil Service Administration, with 106 out of 106 votes from the National Assembly.

According to the press release on the results of the 7th session of the National Assembly of the 6th legislature on Wednesday, 11 May 2022, "The National Assembly has elected Mr. Kep Chuktema, as a member of the Commission on Interior, National Defense and Civil Service Administration, to replace the late Hun Neng who passed away".

After being elected as a member of the Commission, the Fourth Special Committee of the National Assembly, the Commission on Interior, National Defense and Civil Service Administration also elected Kep Chuktema as the Commission’s new Chairman, to replace the former Chairman of the expert committee, Hun Neng, who died from a heart attack on 5 May.

Necfic Executive Director, Sam Kuntheamy, said there was no problem in electing National Assembly members to replace those who had died or resigned, but asked those in their new positions to follow the rules and greet and visit the public directly.

72-year-old Kep Chuktema was the Governor of Phnom Penh for 10 years from 2003 until 2013, and is now a Member of Parliament for the Cambodian People's Party in Phnom Penh.

Additionally, the National Assembly this morning also decided to validate the mandate of Sles Punyamin, a Member of Parliament for Kampong Cham Province, who will replace the late Hun Neng, while Khem Chankiri was elected by the National Assembly as a member of the Committee on public works, transport, telecommunications, post, industry mines and energy, trade, land management, urban planning and construction of the National Assembly.
